Red Bloodwood                                                               Corymbia gummifera

Corymbia gummifera is an evergreen tree with a heavy crown; it can grow up to 35 metres tall.

It has a spongy bark and gets its name from the red/orange colour seen when the outer bark is pulled off.

A similar tree is the Yellow Bloodwood and as you would expect, its bark when peeled has a yellow colour.  It, however, only grows on sandstone soils.

The Red Bloodwood flowers in late Summer through to early Autumn and the Yellow in late Winter to Spring.
