It is not an easy life as they have to compete with other large honeyeaters like the Noisy Miners and Rainbow Lorikeets.
The Swift Parrot is a migratory bird that visits the area in wiinter. Many of the trees in our forest and woodland, like the Spotted Gum, flower in winter and it is on these that the Parrot comes to feed.
In Summer they will return to the Blue Gum forests of Tasmania where they will breed in tree hollows.
Other trees that provide flowers during their stay are the Broad Leaved Paperbark, the Grey Ironbark, the Scribbly Gum, Red Bloodwood, the Swamp Mahogany and the River Red Gum.
The Heath Banksia flowers at this time and it is thought that they may also provide nectar.
